First Aid & CPR
First Aid is emergency care given to an injured or ill person using lifesaving or injury management skills. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an organized, sequential response to cardiac arrest, combining rescue breathing and chest compressions. CPR is performed when a person has stopped breathing or a
person's heart has stopped beating in a lifesaving attempt to provide oxygen to bodily tissues and avoid brain damage or celluar death. All Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR certification courses include Automated External Defibulator (AED) training.
The Canadian Red Cross and Can-Fit-Pro CPR courses are developed in accordance with recommendations from International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Consensus on Science. For more information on the 2005
International Consensus Conference on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science With Treatment Recommendations, hosted by the American Heart Association in Dallas, Texas, January 23–30, please click here.
All employers who are subject to the Occupational Health and Safety Act must comply with Regulation 1101 under section 3 of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. For more information about First Aid Requirements of the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) please click here.
